200 word story

  1. A stolen ring, fear of spiders, and a sinister stranger.

I woke up on my bed feeling sleepy and depressed, the doors creaking silently...Drip Drip I look to my right and I stare at the window cill watching the water drip. I pull of my sheets and walk slowly to my dresser. I grab some clothes and i see a shimmering light of silver on my index finger. I look to my finger and there it was a ring a stolen ring the body of the ring was curved and the letter S on the side...I see visions of what happened yesterday and it all starts flooding back to me.

I was in a bar asking for a drink of beer, I sit down and a sinister stranger starts talking to me
"What's your fear, what do you dread the most in the world?" the stranger asked I was feeling uncomfortable to say anything but the words slipped out of my hands like someone trying to grab water.
"Spiders" I crocked he smiled and opened his mouth to speak
"well I have a cure for that, if you follow this path i looked at the piece of paper in excitement as he was talking " it will take you to a cave with a ring in the middle but the path is treacherous. He stopped talking. I took the map and walked out the bar and followed the trail. The path was treacherous with rivers and mountains i soon reached the cave and the ring was there but as soon as i touched it spiders came flooding towards me I screamed I put the ring on and at that moment I wasn't scared of spiders and with that moment in my mind i smiled and walked out of the cave.

 Two Dice Game I
For each dice game below (Game A and Game B) you are to:
·        decide if each game is fair or not and explain your answer (parts a) and b));
·        play Game A and Game B in pairs, but individually record and explain your results (parts c) and d)).
Game A:         Throw the two dice and add the top two numbers together.
·        Player 1 wins when the result is an odd number.
·        Player 2 wins when the result is an even number.
File written by Adobe Photoshop® 5.0
Sum = 6

a)         i)          Using the table below, who is more likely to win this game?  (Circle one)
                        (A)   Player 1     (B)   Player 2     (C)   Both players are equally likely.
            ii)         Explain your answer.

Player 2 would win because there are more even numbers on the table than there are odd numbers. There are  3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 which are odd numbers and then there are 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 which are even. So there is a more of a chance rolling even numbers.

Game B:         Throw the two dice and multiply the top two numbers together.
·        Player 1 wins when the result is an odd number.
·        Player 2 wins when the result is an even number.
File written by Adobe Photoshop® 5.0
Product = 8

b)         i)          Who is more likely to win this game?  (Circle one)
                        (A)   Player 1     (B)   Player 2     (C)   Both players are equally likely.
            ii)         Explain your answer.
Both players are equally likely to win because there is a fifty fifty chance of getting an odd or an even number when multiplying the top two numbers.

·      Pair up with someone else who has finished a) and b).
·      Get two dice and complete parts c) and d).

c)         i)          Play Game A 50 times and record your results in the table below.

Tally
Frequency
Player 1 winsIIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IO.26
Player 2 winsIIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIIO.24

ii)         Do your results suggest that Game A is fair?   Yes   /   No   (Circle one)
                        Explain your answer.
Yes because player 1 had 26 and player 2 had 24 which means both of the           players  almost got 25 each which is half of fifty.

d)         i)          Play Game B 50 times and record your results in the table below.

Tally
Frequency
Player 1 wins IIIII IIIII IIIO.13
Player 2 wins IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIIII IIO.37

ii)         Do your results suggest that Game B is fair?   Yes   /   No   (Circle one)
                        Explain your answer.
Game b is not fair because player 2 got more wins than player 1. Player 2 got 37 , player 1 got 13 so this proves that game b is not fair.

Science experiment

Today in block two straight after morning tea we went to the science lab to try out some experiments. Here is mine:

Water reflection

Equipment

1x ice cream container
1x Permanent marker
1x $2 coin
1x Jug filled with water
And a partner

Method

Step1: Grab your ice cream container and your $2 coin and trace the coin on the container inside the middle and the colour it in.
Step 2:Step away from the container until you cannot see the black dot.
Step3: Then have your partner fill the container with water all the way

Observation and Reason

What happened was that you could start to see the black dot start to rise and it would be visible again. This happens because the reflection of the light reflects on the water and causes the reflection of the dot higher and further away from the real dot.

Maths Rotation Task

How To Multiply Fractions

Step 1: If you have a fraction like this 6/4  x  8/4   you need to....
Step 2: You need to multiply the two top numbers together 6x8= 48.
Step 3 : Then multiply the bottom numbers which are 4 x 4= 16.
Step 4 : so the answer would be 48/16 but then you need to simplify.
Step 5 :  Then simplify so it would be 12/4 and there is your answer .

This is what the working out should look like.

Geoguessr

This game is called geoguessr. This game shows a random area of where you are at in the world and you have a map beside you where you take a random guess and click on the map and press make guess. A little kind of window will pop up and show you how far away you are from the random area you were given. You have five rounds and every time you guess you get points but the closer you are the more points you are given. When playing these games try look for any words that might give the area away. Try look around a for shops and cafes where they will have a heading on top that you might recognise the writing.

Here is a picture of what it looks like beneath.

Brando Yelavich

On Friday the 16th of May 2014 Brando Yelavich entered the hall as a Tauranga Intermediate guest speaker. Brando Yelavich  came in with a huge camouflage travel bag. Halfway through the assembly they invited him to speak. He said his name was Brando Yelavich and told the school that he was an adventurer who has almost travelled all of New Zealand on foot with only his survival gear. He travels on the shoreline of New Zealand and if a cliff came in the way he would climb it, if he came to an end and you had to swim or travel across the water he would do it.Why is he doing this? He is doing this to raise money for the Ronald Mc Donald House but there is another reason he is doing this. He wanted to find out more about himself because he was in trouble with the police at home so he went on this challenging adventure. Here is the photo below that he took on his selfie pole.At every school he visits, he takes a selfie.

The Wiki game

The wiki game is a game that will test your knowledge. The aim of the game is to find the key word which they will give you at the start of the game. So if I got given the word pirates it will lead me to another different page which you have to work through it to find your keyword. But there are lots of words that have links on them you can use these links to find the keyword before the timer stops. The new reward system

This year we have a new system in our school it is called the click card system. At the end of each school day you will get a click on your card which has 40 click card spaces depending if your behaviour has been acceptable. Once you get 40 clicks on your card you will get a band depending on the colour of your house. Once you get three bands which is equal to 120 clicks you automatically get a stars badge. If you are rewarded a stars card from any of the teachers or principals you will need to write your name down on the card and your room number. Once you have filled out you card you go to the entrance of the library and you will find ten boxes put your card in your houses container. Every house hui your syndicate leader of your house will draw out two cards and if you get picked out of the box you will be given out a coupon for something. At the end of each term one star card is drawn from each house container and will be give a stars hoodie. At the end of the year all the houses card will get mixed together and one star card will get draw out for a bike.
